It's a cold, wet Monday here in Melbourne and a far cry from last week's unbearable heat. In fact, my feet and the bottom of my pants have only just dried from stomping through the puddles on the way to work.

The thing about having great weekends, filled with such fun, is that come Monday morning, it's oh so hard to peel oneself from the pillow. But peel one must.

Well here we are, halfway through the month already. After the Xmas 'binge' of posts I really needed a bit of a break : ) Since Jan 4 I've been back at my 'day job' and haven't had much time to reflect on the new year or decade before us.

We spent New Years down at Lorne which was very special, despite the schizophrenic weather [close to 40 in the morning and hailing in the evening on NYE]

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://www.teawithmary.com.au/blog/2009/12/24/traditions.html"><rss:title>Traditions</rss:title><rss:link>http://www.teawithmary.com.au/blog/2009/12/24/traditions.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject>Christmas</dc:subject>

My mum has got our Xmas traditions down to a fine art by now, but it's taken years of practice to get to this point for sure!

There's the faithful rendition of my Grandma's deadly chocolate cake and the mince pies which are enjoyed before the big day. On Christmas morning we always head to friends for a big Champagne breakfast, so thats easy [just bring bubbles] but in the evening my parents usually host 12-14 of our dearest family friends.

One family brings entree [locally caught seafood!] and another the dessert [traditional pud, lethal brandy butter and drunken strawberries usually]. Which leaves the main event to mum. Roast veg, spuds and amazing meat from Mondo's finds its way to the table without mum even raising a sweat. Unless its a typical 38-40 degree day.

There will come a day when I need to step up and create my own traditions with nearest and dearest, but for now I'm happy to enjoy one of my favourite times of the year :)
