What's your event vision?

Vision boards are an incredibly powerful tool for enabling you to realise your dream when it comes to the perfect event, a room makeover or even a change in life direction and pursuing a different career. When it comes to planning your special event, a vision board can be an invaluable tool for helping define and commuicate the style and personality you have in mind for the event.

When I'm working with a client I'm constantly saving images, quotes and inspirational finds to an inspiration folder on my computer.

Its so easy to start to collect magazine cuttings, fabric and ribbon samples, examples of fonts & typography, menus and photographs and keep them in a safe place. When you are ready to start, just pull out these vision pieces and start to place them on a piece of card or even pin board.

You don't need to finish your board one sitting. After making a start you may want to continue to add to the board as your ideas develop further. Keep your board in a place where you can see it often so that you are inspired to keep adding to it the more your ideas develop.

Alternatively you can research the myriad blogs and wonderful websites out there to find the prefect images to help you articulate your vision - trust me, you're bound to find more than enough images. Save these and keep them in an inspriation folder on your computer. You may want to bookmark sites you particularly like so you can return regularly. Placing them in a 'digital' board might be as simple as using word or powerpoint, or a graphics program like Adobe InDesign or Photoshop.

Another popular option is to use an online tool like Polyvore.  Search under Weddings and you'll find that the site has a number of groups set up catering for wedding inspiration and vision boards. The site has a large range of image categories and websites to select vision items from. From there its just a case of searching key terms like flowers, table setting, jewelry, wedding dress and drag and drop the items that take your fancy to the vision board.

Ideas to get you started - in addition to inspirational images and cuttings.

Are there any descriptive words you would use to describe the overall vibe/ atmosphere of your wedding?

Colour scheme - how do you want this used throughout the event? Flowers, table settings etc.

How do you want to feel on the day / your guests

Are you inspired by a particular time in history. For example 1920's / 30s Art Deco, Vintage, Hollywood Glamour or even rustic casual?

When it comes to planning your wedding [or other special event], be open-minded. You might have a strong idea of what you are after when you start your planning, but don't shut out new ideas. As your vision develops and evovles you may find that you chnage your mind on some aspects of the big day.

Having a vision board will also assist you when it comes time to start meeting with planners and vendors as it will help to communicate the ideas and style of event you have in mind.
